Details

The meeting will begin with an explanation of the technique of stimulation single fibre EMG. Next there will be the opportunities to practice this amongst the attendees under supervision. All attending should have some hands-on experience. Interpretation of the results is important and will be explained.

By itself stimulation single fibre EMG will not allow the correct diagnosis to be made. This can only be achieved with the knowledge of other EMG modalities’results. An important part of paediatric EMG is interpretation of the EMG signals. Introduction to the motor unit duration programmes, and the interference pattern analysis package available on the KeyPoint.net will be given. The attendees will then be working in small groups, between five and six per group and each will be supplied with a laptop with these programs installed. This will allow these groups to interpret recorded signals from a group of patients specially chosen for their interest and different levels of difficulty of interpretation. Each group will feedback their interpretation and important learning points from each case will be emphasised.

Other sessions included will be the problems of obtaining normative data in children and a discussion of normative data that is available.

The meeting takes place in the Great Hall, London House, Guilford Street close to the Institute of Child Health. The faculty will include Matthew Pitt, Jacquie Deeb, Tom Tidswell, John McHugh, Joe Jabre (Boston) and Sanjeev Nandedkar  (Philadelphia)

The registration includes all meals and refreshments but not accommodation.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A REDUCED REGISTRATION FEE FOR UK TRAINEES - if you are not offered this on trying to book please contact the treasurer - Jeremy.Bland@nhs.net
