Changes of Service:

1. Temporary cessation of access.

2. Change of Webmaster .

1. There will be a potential temporary cessation of access to the site for several hours on 13/14 August 2008 as our ISP migrates onto a new server. The migration will probably take place between 12 midnight and 0600 on 14th. They apologise for any inconvenience caused.

2. A new Webmaster has taken over responsibility for the site and is involved in a complete redesign to be available by the AGM in October. In the interim this site will remain available but with minimal updates.

Dr Andrew Weir would like to thank those who have used this site and express the hope that it will remain the main organ of communication of our specialty in the future. All enquiries should now be directed to the new Webmaster, Dr Arup Chattopadhyay at Arup.Chattopadhyay@sth.nhs.uk

A joint BSCN/EPTA Statement on Hand Held Devices for Carpal Tunnel Testing.

This item has now been reinstated and is available jointly and on the EPTA Website.

In the current climate it makes important reading as it demonstrates how we need to be objective in assessing new technology and apply our agreed Guidelines, Standards and Models of working to maintain the professional quality of our clinical work.

Trainees' Section

Dr Peter Heath, SAC Chair has written an update on Modernising Medical Careers for trainees in Clinical Neurophysiology.

This is such an important issue that we consider it "required" reading for all trainees and trainers.

Click to access it.

He also writes on the challenges of competency based methods of assessment for trainees which will replace the current curriculum guidance which relates to numbers of procedures carried out.

It is now incumbent on trainees to set up assessments for Direct Observation of Procedural Skills and Multisource feedback. The forms needed are available on the JCHMT website. From now these assessments will be used to inform the RITA process, and therefore it is essential that trainees undertake them well in advance of RITA and PYA assessments.
